Targeted cooling and thermal control, critical to many power devices and assemblies, requires proper engineering design and materials. LML has extensive experience of the requirements and processes for effective thermal control components.
Rapid heat extraction guides a first choice of compact copper fabrications for water-cooling. A typical construction requires a cross-drilled or machined copper base with brazed or screw-threaded attachments for water-channels and connectors. Water conduits can be leak-tested under pressure.
The mass and cost of metal necessary for larger surface areas and fins promotes aluminium structures for air-cooling. Aluminium is readily machined to a high-quality finish and multiple mounting points for devices and supports, along with cooling-fins, integrate functionality along a conduction path and minimise component interconnections.
